Obituary

Andrew William “Bill” Alexander, 93, our Dad and Papa, passed away on February 22, 2016. Originally from Chicago, he was one of four sons of the late Agnes (O’Halloran) and Andrew Alexander. More than seventy years ago, he met and married his wife Mary (following that fateful bus ride), and together they raised a family, settling in the Raynham-Taunton area. Bill and Mary did everything together until her death in 2015.
Our Papa was a patient, kind man who believed in “family first.” Devoted to Mary, he would do almost anything for her. He also had a tender spot for his children and grandchildren and was immensely proud of all of their accomplishments. A carpenter by trade, he built his former home on Center Street and took great pride in its upkeep. You could often find him puttering outside and always humming his “dee de dee de dee” tune. Papa had many talents, could make almost anything, and especially enjoyed woodworking. He also made a mean pancake. A self-made man and a hard worker, he appreciated the simple things in life and loved animals – especially dogs – and a good game of cribbage. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was honorably discharged. Before his retirement, he also worked for many years in maintenance at the Raynham-Taunton dog track.
We will miss the constant presence of Papa in our lives, but know he is at peace with Gram again by his side. We love you G&P and your legacy lives on through your family.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Patricia (Richard) Ward and Donald (Peggy) Alexander; grandchildren, Kelley, Justin, Jessie, Lindsay, Caitlin and Andrew (and their spouses) and great-grandchildren Ben, Zach, Jake, Taylor, Hunter, Bella, Calvin and Grayson; and his extended Texas stepfamily. His brothers Charles, Robert and George predeceased him. He also leaves his brothers-in-law, Joseph, Dennis and Leon Machado; his sister-in-law, Dulvina Perry; cousins Mary and Agnes Pacheco and many nieces and nephews.
