James M. ”Jim” Weir, 79, of Onset formerly of Whitman, passed away on February 24th at the Tobey Hospital, after a long illness, on his 54th wedding anniversary. He was the husband of the late Janet L. (Atwood) Weir, who passed away on November 21, 2015.
Jim was born in Brockton, grew up in Whitman and attended Whitman Schools. He was the son of the late James and Helen (Kelly) Weir.
He retired from the Whitman Post Office, after more than 30 years .Jim was a member of the Whitman VFW. Jim enjoyed woodworking and helping his neighbor’s in Onset with carpentry jobs all the time.
He is survived by his two daughters, Annette Baumlin and her longtime companion John Lynch of East Wareham and Christine Johansen and her husband Chip of Assonet, his two granddaughters, Courtney Baumlin and Alexandra Johansen. He was also the brother of the late Bruce and Brian Weir, Sandra Lambert and Mary Johansen.
His funeral services will be held on Sunday Feb 28th at 5:00PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St., (Rte 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman. Visitation will be held prior to his service from 2:00PM- 5:00PM.Burial will be on Monday February 29th at 1:15PM, in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Homeless Veterans of Boston, 17 Court St., Boston, MA 02108.
