Donald Albert Kimball, 88, of Stonington died on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London. He is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Marjorie (Draghi) Kimball.
He was born December 15, 1927 in Boston, MA, the son of Donald and Charlotte (Volk) Kimball. He was a veteran, serving in the United States Coast Guard. He worked as an Industrial Engineer at Electric Boat, retiring in 1991.
Don loved to play tennis and enjoyed playing golf. He also loved hiking and he hiked many mountains all over the world. Donald also enjoyed singing and had been a member of the Preston Community Chorus and the Mystic River Chorale. Don was also a member of the choir at his church, the First United Methodist Church of Mystic. He was a member of the Wednesday Mixed Bowling League at Groton Ten Pin. He was a volunteer at the Pequotsepos Nature Center and spent many hours clearing trails.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children: Bradford Kimball of Massachusetts, Jeffrey (Vickie) Kimball of Florida, and Kristen (John) DeFilippo of Wallingford; as well as four step children: Beth (William) Goodwin of Pawcatuck, Cheryl (Thomas) Quirk of Pawcatuck, Jean (Bruce) Morrow of Pawcatuck, and Robert (Deborah) Valenti of Pawcatuck. Combined he leaves 20 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his first wife, Norma (Scheufele) Kimball and his brother, Robert Kimball.
Don’s family will greet relatives and friends on Sunday, February 28, from 5 to 8pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. A Funeral Service will be conducted on Monday at 11:00am at the First United Methodist Church, 23 Willow Street, Mystic. Burial with full military honors will follow in Stonington Cemetery, Route 1, Stonington.
