Dixie Marie Hargrove, 81, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Palemon Gaskins Memorial Nursing Home in Ocilla, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Saturday, February 27, 2016, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Dr. Michael Ruffin officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening, from 6 to 8, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Hargrove was born April 18, 1934, in Phil Campbell, Alabama, to the late Ozzie Morris & Lois Cleo Phillips Thomas. She lived in the community most of her life. She served, as past president of the Pilot Club, she loved her sweets, working in her yards and needlepointing. When she was 65 she enjoyed climbing Angel Falls, in Venezuela. Mrs. Hargrove was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fitzgerald.
She is survived by her daughters: Cheryl I. Garreau & husband: Guy of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Sonja I. Ortmayer & husband: Roger of Reno, Nevada; grandchildren: Dane Ryan Garreau of Atlanta, Travis Ryan Ortmayer of Reno, Nevada and Tara Rachel Ortmayer of Reno, Nevada; one great-grandson: Mikhal Ortmayer of Manchester, England; a sister: Louise T. Guardia of Fitzgerald and a brother: Phillip Thomas & wife: Linda of Asheville, North Carolina. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Reginald Garland Hargrove and two sisters: Anne Thomas and Ruth Thomas.
