Obituary

FALL RIVER - Frederick (Freddie) F. Wolstencroft, 94, of Fall River, died on February 21, 2016 at Brandon Woods Nursing Home of New Bedford, MA. He was born in Fall River on November 10, 1921, the son of the late Fred and Lillian (Holleran) Wolstencroft. Freddie attended Saint Joseph's Elementary School in Fall River. He went on to graduate from Somerset High School in 1938. Freddie was an outstanding athlete who excelled in basketball.

Freddie joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 serving aboard the USS Chilton, APA 38, as a Radioman 2nd Class. He then served in the Pacific Theater where his ship was involved in the invasion of Okinawa, at which time his ship was struck by a kamikaze suicide plane. Upon discharge he pursued a career with the Navy in Newport, RI.

Freddie is predeceased by his parents as well as his brother Thomas H. Wolstencroft. He is survived by his brother, Joseph T. Wolstencroft and his wife Hanna of Portsmouth, NH, nieces Elisabeth Wolstencroft of Portsmouth, NH and Mary Beth Courcier of Assonet, MA, nephews Robert H. Leonard Jr and his wife Elizabeth of Melrose, MA, Thomas Wolstencroft and his wife Linda of Fall River, MA, Richard Wolstencroft and his wife Diane of Smithfield, RI as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. Freddie is also survived by Gus Charos and his wife Mae who maintained a close friendship with him for decades. Also John Oliveira and his wife Lucia, who were a constant source of support throughout his final years.
