Obituary

Evans, GA---Mr. Harvey Milton Seago, of Augusta, Georgia, died peacefully after a brief illness, surrounded by his family on February 22, 2016.
A native of Augusta, Harvey was born to Essie and Amry Seago on September 16, 1923. He graduated from Richmond Academy where he was a Sergeant-Major in the ROTC program. He was attending Junior College in Augusta when the United States entered World War II. Amry Seago owned an auto salvage yard where Harvey worked for awhile, but with the ensuing war, Harvey went to work at the Augusta Arsenal. Shortly thereafter, he was drafted into the military and joined the navy. He graduated from naval training as a third-class radioman. He set sail in January of 1944 and spent the next couple of years on several ships ferrying supplies throughout the Pacific Theater. He was on his last assignment transporting supplies for the invasion of Japan, when Japan surrendered. Harvey was later honorably discharged and reached home on February 13, 1946.
Upon returning from WW II, Harvey went back to work at Seago Auto Parts with his father and brother, John. He joined the naval reserve in January of 1947 and married his wife of 67 years, Lola Jean Hoover. In 1948, their first child, Dianne, was born and in 1950, their second child, David, was born.
Later in 1950, Harvey was called back into service due to the Korean Conflict. As a first-class radioman, he went to Japan as a member of the staff of Commander Fleet Air Japan, where he spent most of the Korean Conflict. This tour of duty was special to Harvey as he learned to like and respect the people who just a few years before were his enemies. He returned home on December 17, 1951. Harvey went back to work at Seago Auto Parts and continued raising his family with Jean. Another daughter, Donna, was born in 1954 and their last child, Kim, was born in 1959. Harvey’s father died in 1957 and he and his brother, John became partners running Seago Auto Parts.
Harvey and John sold the business in 1982 and retired. John passed away in 1985. During retirement, Harvey and Jean enjoyed watching the kids raise their families and spending time with grandchildren. Harvey and the family enjoyed many years vacationing at Edisto Beach. He was also an avid Atlanta Braves fan, as well as a Nascar fan, pulling for Bill Elliott.
Survivors include his wife, Jean, daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Harris Cashwell, son and daughter-in-law, David and Phyllis Seago, daughter and son-in law, Donna and Lee Gray and daughter and son-in-law, Kim and John Stanley, eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many cousins.
