Stanley D. Herrmann
Stanley passed away peacefully on Sunday February 21, 2016 after a prolonged struggle with Alzheimer's. He was born in Dodge City, KS to William Stanley Herrmann and Dorothy Heinrich. Stan was an athlete and was a star basketball player at King City High School, CA where he spent his senior year, faithful jogger having run in many marathons. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1957 during the Korean War having served on the USS Intrepid Aircraft Carrier which is now a museum in New York Harbor.
Stan retired from the SoCal Gas Company in 1993 after 36 years of service. He was a dispatcher at the former headquarters in Santa Barbara.
Stan's first marriage was to Claire Bardin. He met his 2nd wife and soul mate, Shirley Willson, on may 2, 1982. They were wed on September 1, 1984. Stan and Shirley enjoyed many years of rv'ing. Went to every state except North Dakota and Alaska. They also went across Canada in their motor home from Alberta to Quebec, and enjoyed going to their timeshare each year on Oahu.
Survivors include his wife Shirley of Ventura, daughter Debbie Johnston (Rick), Grandson Christopher (Nicole), great-granddaughter, Sarah Johnston, and great-grandson Ryan Johnston all of La Pine, OR, son Michael Herrmann (Karime) of San Diego, CA, step-son Larry Willson (Elaine) of Oxnard, granddaughters Harmony Willson and Brittany Willson of Santa Barbara, step-daughter Ann Boone, granddaughter Bryana Boone, and grandson Conor Boone all of Lexington, KY. He is survived by his sister Linda Fuller of Idaho, sister-in-law Lu Limoges of Vermont and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son Steven Herrmann, grandson Danny Johnston, and his sister Laine Attenborough.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to Finest Living Care Home staff for their compassionate care and to all the staff at Buena Vista Hospice for their excellent care.
In lieu of flowers donations to Alzheimer's research or to a charity of your choice in Stan's honor would be appreciated.
Family and friends are invited to attend Graveside Funeral Services with Military Honors will be held on Tuesday March 22, 2016 at 11am in Santa Barbara Cemetery, 901 Channel Drive, Santa Barbara.
