Gary John Ellis (John), of Baldwinsville, New York, passed away at 66 years of age on Sunday, February 14, 2016, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA. John was born on April 13, 1949, in Syracuse, NY, and is survived by his wife, Erminia Ellis (Nina) and his children; Christopher John (Dylan) Ellis, Christy Lynn (Wayne) Collaro- Salas, and Corey (Tashina) Collaro; a brother, Ronald (SunYe) Ellis and three sisters, Diane Roberts, Marcia (Michael) Piquet, and Bette (Paul) Hebert, and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. John was predeceased by his parents, Donald M. Ellis and Marian C. Ellis; and two sisters, Donna M. Ellis, and Marie A. Cook. Before he retired in 2008, John had a career in supply chain management first with Lamson Co. and then Killian Manufacturing.
Because of his heart condition, John thought of each moment after his 30’s as "bonus time," and found great happiness in spending so many years in that bonus time. He was a wonderfully giving person, actually giving the shirt off his back one time to warm a stranger after a car accident, as well as an intelligent person who would always tell it like it was ... the original "keeping it 100." He loved to play cards and golf with his wife Nina. He also loved to garden and fix things, especially old cars. He challenged those around him to be better, while always showing the utmost support. John was a proud member of the Tyrol Club of Solvay with his wife Nina and they considered its members a second family.
The family of John Ellis wishes to thank St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, New York, especially Dr. Russell Silverman for his years of dedication, caring, and commitment to John, along with the medical team at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA for their hard work and sincere care in John’s final month.
John loved nature and often thought it beneficial to walk or sit at Beaver Lake Nature Center and watch the birds in order to slow down and spend time in the absence of noise. As such, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Friends of Beaver Lake (8477 E Mud Lake Rd, Baldwinsville) in his memory. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 16 2016 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church located at 3494 New York Rt. 31, Baldwinsville, New York 13027.
