Obituary

John R. “Rich” Leonard, Jr. age 70 of Avon, died Sunday February 21, 2016 at St. Joseph Manor after a period of failing health. Rich was born in Brockton and raised in Avon a son of the late Ileane M. (Depson) Leonard and John R. Leonard, Sr. Soon after his graduation from Avon High School in 1963, Rich enlisted in the US Air Force during the Viet Nam era.
Rich retired from the Stop & Shop Company main offices in Quincy.
Rich was a motorcycle enthusiast and loved riding his bike to Laconia with his brother Jim. He expressed his artistic talents in drawing and painting in watercolor, writing and carpentry. Rich also enjoyed treasure hunting with his metal detector. He enjoyed playing cards and target shooting at Avon Fish & Game.
Rich will be remembered as a quiet gentleman instilled with traditional values.
Rich was the father of Susan Keefe and her husband Michael, Brian Leonard and his fiancée Danielle Palmer and Erin Leonard and her companion Jay Barchard all of Brockton. Grandfather of Sean and Christopher Leonard and brother of James Leonard of Avon, Robert E. Leonard and his wife Linda of Middleboro and longtime loving companion of Marty Sharpe of Delray Beach, FL. He also leaves 4 nieces and nephews Michele, Marci, Bob and Jessica.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (rte. 123) Brockton on Thursday 3-6pm. Please consider donations in Rich’s name to Old Colony Hospice, One Credit Union Way, Randolph, MA 02368.
