Obituary

Domingos Monteiro Xavier passed away on February 17, 2016. He was born in Fogo, Cabo Verde to Atanazia Tavares and Francisco Xavier on January 20, 1950. Domingos was raised in Mira Mira, and married his wife Maria Pires Carvalho in 1974. He ran a small convenience store (loja). He was also a soldierin the Cape Verdean/Portuguese Army. Domingos is survived by his wife, Maria Xavier, and his children; Antonieta Xavier, Leila Xavier, Atanazia Xavier, Francisca Xavier, Antonio Xavier, Vladmir Xavier, Neria Xavier, Maria Xavier, and Ernestina Xavier. Also survived by 16 grandchildren. Anyone who met Domingos knew the courage and resilience he carried within.
Though he carried pain, he was always there to give strength and encouragement to those around him. He was the constant voice of support, and remains the glue that holds this family together. There was nothing he enjoyed more than beating someone at a game of bisca, besides maybe watching his grandchildren laugh, or maybe telling an inappropriate joke. He was immensely proud of his family, and we want him to know, Donu, that we were proud of you too. Thank you for being a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and an exemplary man. We will carry with us always the sweet memories you gave us.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Visiting hours in St. Peters Church, 278 Bowdoin Street, Dorchester, on Sunday, Feb 21, from 5-8pm. There will be a Wake Service at 7:45pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday morning, February 22, at 10am in St. Peters Church. Interment at New Calvary Cemetery, Boston.
