Obituary

Charles Carmo, 77, of New Bedford died February 21, 2016 at home after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Nancy J. (Amaral) Carmo with whom he shared 55 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late John and Alice (Lopes) Carmo, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Carmo was formerly employed as a general contractor and was the building inspector for the City of New Bedford.
He was actively involved in the American Red Cross, the Community Youth Program and was the former president of Minority Action Committee.
Mr. Carmo served in the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Charles Carmo, Jr. of New Bedford and Michael Carmo and his wife Katrina of Dartmouth; a daughter, Tracy Teixeira and her husband Jeff of New Bedford; 2 brothers, William Carmo of Marion and George Carmo of New Bedford; 3 sisters, Dolores Spencer of Fairhaven, Ethel Fox of Boston and Catherine Cabral of Dartmouth; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Thomas Carmo, John Carmo, Michael Carmo and Louis Carmo.
His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 25th at 10 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, February 24th from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Steward Home Care and Hospice, 275 Martine St., Fall River, MA 02723.
