Henry Lee Carter

Augusta, GA – Mr. Henry Lee Carter, age 89, beloved husband of Mrs. Dessie Pate Carter, entered into rest on Saturday, February 20, 2016.

Mr. Carter, a native of Augusta, was the son of Henry Carter and Mamie Lynch. Mr. Carter was a retired Navy Chief Petty officer who served in post-war Europe during the Berlin airlift. He retired from Savannah River Plant with over 38 years of service as a machinist and welder. He served as welding instructor at Augusta Technical College. He worked for his son’s business R.T. Carter Contracting for an additional 26 years. He attended Victory Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, five sons and a daughter, Kenneth (Bev) Carter, Augusta, Ga., Ron (Carleen) Carter, Appling Ga., Mike (Lourie) Carter, Lawrenceville, Ga., Chuck Carter, Grovetown Ga, Billy (Debbie) Banks, Beech Island, Sc, and Gail (Mark) Linkous, Clarksville, Tn; as well as ten grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Olivia Hardeman Carter, his son, the late Mr. Clyde Tracy Carter, and his sister, Pauline Hefner. Active pallbearers will be his sons and grandsons.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at 3:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Wes Gardner officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery.
