Edward P. Karvoski Sr., 90, of Hudson, died peacefully Friday, Feb. 19, 2016, at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford after a brief battle with cancer. With him were his wife of 67 years, Glenna (Allen) Karvoski, and their son, Ed Karvoski Jr., both of Hudson. He was the son of the late Joseph and Antoinette (Broderick) Karvoski.
Karvoski was a lifelong Hudson resident and an avid gardener. A U.S. Army veteran, he served as a rifleman in World War II. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1027, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 82, and Military Order of the Purple Heart.
In 2012, he was presented the Legion of Honor Medal during Lafayette Day ceremonies at the Massachusetts Statehouse by Christophe Guilhou, the Consulate General of France. According to Guilhou, “It is the highest honor in France.”
In early 1944, Karvoski joined the 36th Armored Infantry Regiment of the Third Armored “Spearhead” Division. He had just turned age 19 when his division took part in the Marigny-St. Lo breakthrough, the fighting around Mortain, the closing of the Falaise Gap, and the drive across Northern France. Wounded in Germany, he received the Purple Heart and returned to duty. Karvoski was also awarded the Silver Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Infantryman Combat Badge and Distinguished Unit Citation.
Besides his wife and son, he leaves many nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 27th at 9:00 a.m. in Saint Michael’s Church, 21 Manning Street, Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael’s Cemetery, Hudson.
