Obituary

James Lee Powell, 67, died, Thursday, February 18, 2016, at St. Thomas Highlands Hospital in Sparta, Tennessee.

Graveside Rites will be held 2 PM, Tuesday, February 23, 2016, at Spring Hill Primitive Church Cemetery in Irwin County, with Elder Paul Thomas officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 12 Noon until 1:30 PM at the Paulk Funeral Home, in Ocilla.

Mr. Powell was born November 8, 1948, in Boaz, Alabama, to the late James Edward Powell and Margaret Francis Kelly Powell Davis. James was a mechanic with Hughes Farms and enjoyed fishing and feeding his deer and cats. He lived in West Palm Beach, Florida until 2009, when he and his wife moved to Crossville, Tennessee. He served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era, where he was awarded a purple heart. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife: Victoria S. Powell of Crossville, TN; four sons, Bryan Leroy Powell of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Steven Jacob Powell of Okeechobee, Florida, Jason Knoles of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Christopher Knoles of Winston-Salem, NC; a daughter, Kimberly Knoles of West Palm Beach, Florida; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Peggy P. Woods and husband Woody, Helen P. Lee, all of Ocilla, Dixie Sweet Lott of Broxton; one brother, Lee Powell and wife Vicki of Clewiston, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents; one nephew, Mark Joslyn.
