John Santos, 92, of New Bedford died Thursday February 18, 2016 at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Therese (Benoit) Santos; they had been married for 68 years.
Born in Fairhaven, the son of the late Francisco and Joaquina (Luiz) Santos, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph-St. Therese Church.
Mr. Santos was formerly employed as a warehouseman for Standard Grocery Company, and later worked as a maintenance man for Augat, Inc. until his retirement.
He was a member of the Teamsters Union, Local 59.
He loved playing Bingo and going to Foxwoods.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Leonard G. Santos and Paul W. Santos, both of New Bedford; his siblings, Arthur Santos of New Bedford, Louise Sylvia of Marion, Elvira Peterson of North Kingstown, RI; Hilda Giarrusso of Johnston, RI, Irene Gioiosa and Grace Gonsalves, both of New Bedford; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Mary Jesus, Amelia Baptiste, Rose Loureiro, Joaquin "Jack" Santos, August "Gus" Santos, Joseph "Chic" Santos, and Antone "Tony" Santos.
His Funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Church at 10 AM.
