Obituary

Evelyn (Haddad) Hajjar, 89, of Lawrence, passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of the late James G. Hajjar. Evelyn was born on April 20, 1926 in Methuen to Joseph and Annie Haddad. She was educated in Methuen schools and was a graduate of the Edward F. Searles High School. She was employed in the offices of the U.S. Bobbin Shop and Frank C. Meyer Co. in Lawrence. With her husband and children Evelyn worked for many years as owner of Hajjar Real Estate, Inc.
Evelyn lived a life in service to her family, friends and church. Her love, devotion and generosity to her children and grandchildren was boundless. Evelyn was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Melkite Catholic Church in Lawrence and a member of the Daughters of St. Joseph. She enjoyed many summers at Seabrook beach, card games with her cousins, cooking and entertaining, and was a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan.
Evelyn was predeceased by her beloved husband, James. She is survived by her children, Carol Hajjar McGravey and her husband, James, of Lawrence, with whom she made her home, Bob Hajjar and his wife Pam of Strafford, New Hampshire, and Judy Andrews and her husband Kevin of Hampton New Hampshire. She was the loving grandmother of Kevin McGravey and his fiancé, Elizabeth Luther of Lincoln, Rhode Island, Eric Andrews and his wife Jennifer of Farmington, New Hampshire and Scott Andrews of Hampton, New Hampshire and step-grandmother to Scott Sanders and Vicki Sanders. Evelyn is also survived by her brother, Edward Haddad, her sisters-in-law, Lorane Hajjar and her husband, Lester Rugg of North Andover and Gladys Hajjar of North Andover and Mary Faro of Salisbury, and many nieces nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her sister, Delia Hajjar and her husband, George Hajjar, also her sisters-in-law, Yvonne Keamy and her husband Donald and Marion Haddad: brothers-in-law, Edmund Hajjar and George Hajjar.

ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends are invited to calling hours from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, February 21, at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, 35 Merrimack Street, North Andover, Massachusetts. The funeral service will be held at St. Joseph’s Melkite Church, 241 Hampshire Street, Lawrence, at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 22. Burial in the United Lebanese Cemetery in Lawrence will be private. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284 or to the charity of one’s choice.
