Anna Ray Suter, age 94 of Towson, Maryland passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2016 at Gilchrist Hospice Center. Born March 3, 1921 to the late Charles William and Bertha Estella (Bowers) Suter, she was the last of her immediate family. Predeceasing her were siblings: John Henry Suter, Charles Granville Suter, Mary Adeline Cramer, Bertha Bowers Nusz, Virginia May Keesecker, William Franklin Suter, Alice Estella Eury, James Nelson Suter, Martin Conrad Suter, Lester Dawson Suter and Ellen Laverne Fox.
Anna Ray was a beloved sister, aunt and friend. She had a passion for genealogy, and was the family historian for over 220 descendants of her siblings, spanning 5 generations. She started her singing career at WFMD in Frederick, Maryland and studied voice at the Peabody Institute. She worked at WITH for 13 years as the Record Liberian. She was featured in a 1949 article in Radio Mirror Magazine, where she was called tops in her field, with a phenomenal memory for music. After 25 years of service, Anna Ray retired from Johns Hopkins University as the Director of Research and Records.She was an active member of the Association of Records Managers and Administrators (ARMA), where she held many official positions in the Baltimore Chapter, and was selected Chapter Member of the Year several times for her contributions. After retirement she became active in volunteer work at Johns Hopkins University, Church Home and Hospital, Pickersgill Retirement Community and St. Paul’s Place soup kitchen. As a faithful member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, she served in multiple leadership roles over her life time. She was a long standing member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority. Among many of her accolades Anna Ray won the Martin Luther King Jr. Award for Community Service while volunteering at Johns Hopkins University.
A Celebration of her life will be held on March 5th at 11 A.M. in the Saint Thomas Episcopal Church, 1108 Providence Road, Towson, MD. In lieu of flowers Anna Ray requested donations be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church Music Program.
