Obituary

RAYNHAM – John W. Downey, husband of Maria (deJesus) Downey, died at his Raynham home on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016.
He was 67.
Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late Thomas C. and Louise (Santos) Downey.
He holds a Bachelor Degree from Southeastern Mass University, Dartmouth and a Master’s Degree from Assumption College in Worcester. John served in the U.S. Airforce during the Vietnam War.
He was the owner of Silvercrest Retirement Home in Taunton, opening it in 1982.
A communicant of Holy Family Church in East Taunton, he is survived by his son, Justin Downey of Boston; two daughters, Naomi Downey and her significant other Jason Balas of Raynham and Amanda Downey and her significant other Terry Andrews of Taunton; two brothers, Thomas Downey Jr. and his wife Betsy of Taunton and Michael Downey and his wife Sharon of Arizona; six grandchildren, Austin Melo, John W. Downey, II, Trinidy Burnett, Jeziah Downey, Brody Balas and Landon Balas, all of Raynham; and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Saturday, Feb. 20th from 10 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Holy Family Church in E. Taunton at 11 a.m.
Burial will be at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA on Monday, Feb. 22nd at 9:30 a.m.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, Feb. 20th from 8:30 to 10:15 a.m. prior to the funeral mass.
