Wallace H. Holmberg, 81, passed away Wednesday morning, February 17, 2016 at the Community Hospice Warner Center in Fernandina Beach.
Mr. Holmberg was born January 14, 1935 in Jamestown, NY and moved to Fernandina Beach, FL in1994 from Big Flats, NY.
He was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church where he served as Assisting Minister and Chairperson of the Stewardship Committee. He also sang in the choir and was involved the De Colores.
He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
Wally was a devoted husband and father. He lived a life of great faith, as an ardent reader he was always learning about his relationship with Christ. Wally was very active throughout his life, he enjoyed all sports and was a enthusiastic golfer and bowler. Sunday afternoon television viewing was always reserved for watching the PGA. He loved travel and enjoyed many great cruises during his retirement. Wally loved all people and was very social. He often found himself in conversations with new people, wherever he went.
Mr. Holmberg was predeceased by a son, Jay Wallace Holmberg, who passed away in 1960; a daughter, Kim Mungo who passed away in 2014 and by his first wife, Helen M. Holmberg who passed away in 1983.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Katherine Holmberg of Fernandina Beach, FL; four children, Donna K. Zenker of Ocala, FL, Jo Ann Sample (George) of St. Johns, FL, Cynthia Zenker of Fernandina Beach, FL and Kevin E. Holmberg (Susan) of Batavia, IL; a son in law, William Mungo of Fernandina Beach; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, February 21, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Fernandina Beach with Pastor Ida Iverson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to either the American Diabetes Association or the National Kidney Foundation.
