SOMERSET - Arthur “Archie” Tavares, age 87 of Somerset passed away February 15, 2016. He was the husband of Cecilia A. (Tavares) Tavares and son of the late Joseph and Mary (Correia Soares) Tavares. Archie retired as Head Custodian for the Bristol County Court System, served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, was a member of Somerset AmVets Post #72, Fall River Pigeon Club, was an avid baseball fan & Red Sox critic and a parishioner of St. John of God Church. Archie also played minor league baseball for the Chicago White Sox and the Boston Red Sox.
He was the father of Anne-Marie Branco (Husband Richard) of Abbot, ME, Elizabeth Coleman (Husband Michael) of Swansea and Kevin Jon Tavares (wife Kate) of Minneapolis, MN.; brother of Richard Tavares of FL; 4 grandchildren: Matthew and Timothy Branco of ME, Jeremy Coleman Swansea, and Grace Inez Tavares of MN. He was the brother of the late William & Joseph Tavares, &Violet Joaquim.
His funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, Inc. 1521 N. Main St., Fall River on Saturday at 8:00 A.M. followed by a service here at 9:00 A.M. Interment in Nathan Slade Cemetery, Somerset. Calling hours Friday 4-8 P.M.
