Young, Ethel F. (Day)
Ethel Young passed away peacefully on February 15, 2016 at the age of 92. Ethel was the beloved wife of the late Martin C. Young of Red Beach, ME. She was the loving mother of Russell and his wife Marcia of Wellesley, Gerry and his wife Judith of Stoneham, and Marcia O’Connor and her husband Michael of Dedham. She was the proud grandmother of Jennifer Ferraro, Ryan Young and his wife Emily, Matthew Young, Jeffrey Young, Michelle O’Connor and Dan O’Connor. She also leaves her cherished great-grandchildren Isabella Ferraro, J.J. Young, and Caroline Young.
Born in Somerville, MA on April 18, 1923, Ethel was the youngest child of Elizabeth (Estabrook) and Allen Day. She was predeceased by her sister Louise Clarke and her brothers, Everett Day and Frank Day.
Ethel grew up in Somerville and was a 1945 graduate of Simmons College. Shortly after graduation, she was married to her beloved husband, Martin. They raised their family in Stoneham before moving to Maine upon retirement in 1977. Ethel remained living in Maine after Martin passed away after 53 wonderful years of marriage.
In 2011, Ethel moved to Sophia Snow House in West Roxbury where she happily resided for her remaining years. She enjoyed participating in the many activities offered, especially bingo, and leaves many dear friends among the residents and staff.
Ethel was a woman of many talents. No one can forget her masterful cooking and wonderful meals. She was skilled at many crafts, sewed her own wedding gown, and knit many dozens of sweaters as well as her signature Christmas stockings for relatives and extended family. Ethel added her beautiful singing voice to her church choirs throughout her life.
She will be tenderly remembered for her devotion to her family, her generosity, sense of humor, and unconditional love.
Services and interment will be privately held in Maine.
