Obituary

Mr. John C. Shannon, a lifelong Woburn resident passed away at the Winchester Hospital, February 14, following a period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of Catherine M.(Waterman) together they shared 51years of marriage. Born in Woburn he was the son of the late Mary (Uniacke) and John P. Shannon.



Following his graduation from High School he continued his education at Boston College earning a Bachelor of Science and Masters Degree in Economics. John enjoyed a long career as a Professor of Economics at Suffolk University and nights at Northeastern University. He loved spending time with his family and friends and was particularly devoted to his grandchildren. During the Korean War he was attached to the 2nd Armored Division where he proudly served with distinction and honor. His greatest pastime was his trip to Ireland the birthplace of his mother and his unforgettable cruise on the Holland American Line on the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of their marriage.



In addition to his wife Catherine he is survived by his three sons, Stephen of Woburn, John Jr. and his wife Dawn of NH., and Michael Shannon of Woburn. Five Grandchildren, Brian, Kevin, Jenna, Amanda and Kyle. He was the loving uncle of Maryann Yutkins, Colleen Bernardo and William O’Kane. He was the brother of Margaret Lowell of Wilmington.



He was predeceased by two sisters, Jane Murphy and Ann O’Kane.



His funeral will be held from the McLaughlin – Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St. Woburn, Thursday, February 18, at 9:a.m., followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Barbara’s Church, 138 Cambridge Rd. Woburn at 10. Services will conclude with burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn



Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit at the McLaughlin – Dello Russo funeral home on Wednesday, 5 thru 8 p.m.
