Charles Lucas “Skip” Farrington, Jr., a native of Kingston, MA, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at the age of 82, after a long battle with cancer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Donna M. (Keller) Farrington of Kingston; his son, Charles L. Farrington, III and his beloved daughter-in-law, Jennifer (Palmer) Farrington both of Fairfield, CT. Skip is also survived by his sister, Sally Benson of Cape Canaveral, Florida and his sister-in-law, Edna Farrington of Osterville, MA, along with many treasured nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.
He was predeceased by his brother, John B. Farrington of Osterville and sister, Jane Sturtevant of Kingston, along with his parents, Charles L. & Ruth Farrington also of Kingston.
A 1956 graduate of Northeastern University, he entered the US ARMY as a 2nd Lt in 1957 progressing to the level of Captain prior to returning to Kingston in 1965 to begin his career in the public sector.
While his career encompassed nearly four decades with the US Department of Transportation/US Coast Guard, first as an Accountant and then Comptroller focused on the 1st District in Boston, his true passion was his family and community.
Ultimately residing just one half mile from the place of his birth, he was a man who traveled the world in the service of his country but was most comfortable making a difference in the community he loved so much.
Skip served on the Kingston Board of Selectman for 12 years acting as Chairman of the Board for multiple terms. He also volunteered on numerous town committees, acted as a trustee of the Evergreen Cemetery and was active in the First Parish (Beal Trust, Clock Tower Fund, and Joseph Holmes Memorial Fund).
An active member of the American Legion Post 108, he also enjoyed 50+ year memberships in the Masonic Corner Stone Lodge of Duxbury, the Samoset Royal Arch Chapter of Marshfield and the Hilltop AA of Kingston.
Calling hours will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main Street, (Route 106), Kingston, on Friday, February 19, 2016, from 4:00-8:00 PM.
A memorial service will be held at the First Parish Church of Kingston, 223 Main Street, Kingston, on Saturday, February 20, 2016, at 10:30 AM.
Burial will be private.
