Robert A. Roberge age 83 of Brockton, died peacefully with family by his side on Friday February 12, 2016 at the Brockton VA Medical Center. He had fought a lengthy battle with cancer. Robert was the devoted husband of the late Helen M. (Angus) Roberge for 57 years. He was born in Brockton a son of the late Alexander and Marie (Ackerman) Roberge and remained a lifelong resident of the city.
During the Korean War, Robert fought combat with the US Army and received several medals including a bronze star. He retired from the Brockton Fire Department after many years of service. Robert had also worked as a glazier with several local glass companies.
Robert was an inventor who held a patent. He also enjoyed wood working, metal detecting and was fascinated with science, even building his own telescopes.
Robert will be remembered as a brilliant man who was both kind and generous. He had been a hard worker providing for his family. Robert’s true joy in life was spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
Robert was the loving father of William Roberge of Middleboro and his wife Patty of Onset, Kathleen Chiappini and her companion William Spadea of Bridgewater, Donna Patrick and her husband James of Plymouth and Michael Roberge of W. Paris, Maine. He leaves 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Robert was also the brother of Jean Pesa and Marie Callahan both of Bourne, Richard Roberge of Washington state and Marylou Hill of Brockton and also had many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte.123) Brockton on Wednesday 4-7pm. A funeral Service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 10 am followed by burial with military honors in Melrose Cemetery.
