Obituary

WAYLAND: Ronald Faris Brodrick of Wayland and West Dennis died peacefully and with comfort on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 following a brief illness.
He was born in Fairfield, NE on September 27, 1919 the son of the late Carl A Brodrick and Faris E. (Whitham) Brodrick.
Ronald was the beloved husband for 58 years of Elizabeth Wentworth Brodrick, the love of his life, who died on July 17, 2000.
He is survived by his loving and devoted children Susan E. Barrett and her husband Edward Barrett of Winchester; Kathleen A. Walker and her husband Gary Walker of South Yarmouth, John P. Brodrick and his wife Carole (Costello) Brodrick of Westwood and the late James T. Brodrick who died in 1994. Cherished grandfather of Edward Barrett, III and his wife Carolyn Barrett; Andrew Barrett; Elizabeth Somerville and her husband Jeromy Somerville; Sarah Brandt and her husband Richard Brandt; Kaitlin Brodrick; Jessica Brodrick; Timothy Brodrick and Lisa Brodrick. Loving great-grandfather of Grace and Charles Barrett, Emily and Megan Somerville and Fiona Brandt.
Mr. Brodrick has resided in Wayland for the past 36 years and previously resided in West Bridgewater. He spent his earlier years growing up on the family farm in Fairfield, NE and was educated from grades 1-8 in a one room school house. He received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from MIT, where he remained an Alumni member.
He served his country with honor and pride with the United States Navy as a LT and Naval Aviator with the VP 91 Unit in the South Pacific during World War II. He participated in the Morse Library Lecture Series in Natick and shared and educated people from all walks of life on his experience as a veteran serving his country during World War II. He also spent countless hours discussing and educating the students in the Natick Middle School about the events of World War II and his personal stories and remembrances which he delighted in sharing. He truly was an honorable gentleman from the “Greatest Generation”. He will be fondly remembered and loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He had a long and distinguished career as a Mechanical Engineer beginning with General Electric in Lynn and then with Lasell Associates, now known as Teledyne of Waltham for over 35 years retiring in 1984. He was a member of ASME and the Mass Audubon Society.
The most important aspect of Ronald’s life was the love and devotion that he shared with his family who was the center of his life. He loved being on Cape Cod, boating and the time spent with family.
Visitations will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm in the Gibbs Memorial Chapel of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte 30), Wayland.
His funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at 10:30 am at the Trinitarian Congregational Church, 53 Cochituate Road (Rte 27), Wayland with Rev. Alan Baldwin officiating.
Burial will be in the Moulton-Wentworth family lot in Melrose Cemetery in Brockton.
