Lillian McGowan Wardwell, 77, of Londonderry, NH passed away Friday, February 12, 2016 at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 13, 1938 in Jersey City, NJ, a daughter of the late James and Rose (Finnegan) McGowan. Lillian was raised in the Boston area and has resided in Londonderry for over 30 years. She loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and will forever be remembered for “Storytime with Grandma Lil”.
Members of the family include her devoted husband of a far too short 55 years, Bill Wardwell, her four children, Darren Wardwell and wife Kathie Bourret, Sharon Laplume and husband Ron, Laurie Sweeney and husband Bruce, and Chip Wardwell and wife Jackie, six grandchildren, Rachael, Kyle, Jylian, Chelsea, Madi and Jake, three great grandchildren, Jackson, Katie and Leonid, her brother Tommy McGowan and wife Sis, sister Jean Martin and husband Don, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Following cremation, memorial calling hours were held on Sunday, February 14, 2016 from 11am - 1pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
