Obituary

Demo W. Karalekas, 81, of New Bedford died Sunday February 7, 2016 at Home and Hospice of Rhode Island. He was the husband of the late Beverly A. (Silva) Karalekas.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late William and Paraskeve (Giste) Karalekas, he lived in New Bedford all of his life. Mr. Karalekas was a graduate of New Bedford High School and attended the University of Houston.

He was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church.

Mr. Karalekas was a partner in State Fruit Company, Inc. until his retirement.

He was a member of the New Bedford Whaling Museum, a former member of the New Bedford Boys Club and the YMCA, and a life member of WHALE.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He is survived by his son, Dean; his daughter, Pamela Ann of New Hampshire; his granddaughter, Jamie; and his loving nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Esther Frey and Anthony W. Karalekas.

His Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday at 10 AM at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 186 Cross Rd., Dartmouth, followed by burial in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Monday from 4-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
