Obituary

CHICOPEE – Doris E. (Barre) Sabourin, 89, a longtime resident of Holyoke, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, February 9, 2016. She passed into Eternal Life at Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born at home on Montcalm Street in the Fairview section of Chicopee on March 10, 1926, a beloved daughter of the late William J. and Eva (Provost) Barre. She was raised in Fairview, graduated in 1943 from Chicopee High School and moved to Holyoke in 1956. She was last employed as a Supervisor at the Philip Hano Business Forms in Holyoke and retired in 1989. She was an avid Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics fan and was always ready to watch a good game. She was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Fairview where she was a member of the Saint Anne Sodality Guild and the Saint Anne Senior Choir. She was also a member of the Holy Family Women’s Club in Holyoke. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Francis S. Sabourin who was Called Home in May of 1984; her loving son, Ernest J. Picard who was Called Home on July 28, 2007; and her twelve dear siblings including her twin sister and best friend, Dorothy A. Ciosek who was Called Home on January 12, 2012. She leaves her three loving children, Katherine E. Russell and her husband, Elliott, of North Easton, MA, David K. Picard and his wife, Valorie, of Lakeside, CA and Jane A. Dziczek and her husband, James, of Waterbury, CT; her six cherished grandchildren, Barry Picard and his wife, Lori, Melissa Clark and her husband, Richard, Elizabeth Russell, Tammy Ames and her husband, Donny, Joseph Picard and his wife, Bonnie and Brian Dziczek and his wife, Krista; her six cherished great-grandchildren, Erik, Joshua and Rachel Picard, Joseph Michael Picard, Brianna Dziczek and Tyler Dziczek; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended family members. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, February 16, 2016 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, February 15, 2016 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home.
