Obituary

John “Hot Dog” Buchanio, Jr. 78, of Franklin, passed away peacefully February 5 at Norwood Hospital. By his side were his three daughters Vicki, Maureen and Kerry, Vicki’s husband, Alan and dear family friend Jason Risotti, who also called him “Dad”.
Born in Milford, March 7, 1937, the son of the late John Buchanio and Josephine (DeSantis) Buchanio.
Hot Dog was a large part of the Town’s character, heart and soul;. He prided himself on his ability to remember every phone number, license plate number, and most importantly, lottery number, that he’d ever seen or heard, and also for remembering every person he’d ever met. He loved every minute of his 60 years as a phenomenal carpenter, and found retirement very difficult. John had a beautiful singing voice and a sharp wit that entertained and cheered all who knew him. He also was a great cook and was famous for his home made pizza and the Christmas Eve Feasts that were open to all of his friends and family.
John leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Judy (Carlson) Buchanio .
He is also survived by his children, Vicki Buchanio Earls and her husband Alan of Franklin, Maureen Buchanio Simpson and her husband Karl of Franklin and Kerry Buchanio and her partner Steven Finlay of Bellingham.
He is also survived by his beloved sisters, Joanne Yadisernia of Franklin, Andrea Tosches of West Barnstable, Diane Perkins of Holiday, Florida, and his sister-in-law Joanne Dixon and her husband Walter of Virginia Beach, Virginia.
He was the brother of the late Loraine MacDonald and Joseph Buchanio.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Rebecca and Erik Simpson and his step-grandsons, Eamon and Ethan Earls.
His funeral service will be held on Friday, February 12 in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main Street, Franklin at 11:00 a.m.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Franklin.
Calling hours will be on Thursday from 4-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, Ma 02114 of the Boston Children’s Hospital 300 Longwood Ave, Boston, MA 02115.
