David L. Nickerson, a longtime resident of Wilmington passed away peacefully February 3, 2016, following a lengthy period of declining health. He was 80 years of age. David was the beloved husband of the late Maureen H. (Duffy). Born in Malden he was the son of the late Jacob R. and Jean (Ferguson) Nickerson.
David was raised and educated in Malden and honorably served in the United States Army during peacetime from 1958 to 1960. He lived for many years in Melrose before settling in Wilmington in 1983. David worked for many years prior to his retirement as a machinist instrument maker with MIT Lincoln Laboratory and later with Draper Labs. He was a talented craftsman and enjoyed working with his hands. He loved carpentry and fine woodworking. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing cribbage with his friends, but most of all he cherished time with his family and was always willing to help them in any way he could.
He is lovingly survived by his children; David L. Nickerson Jr. and his wife Robin of Carver, Susan Hodgson and her husband Joseph of Merrimack, NH. He was the loving grandfather of Joseph Hodgson Jr. and his wife Chryssy, Julie Sughrue and her husband John, Jacob Nickerson, Karly Nickerson, and Kereith Pinnock. Loving great grandfather of Joseph Hodgson III. Brother of Roy Nickerson of Malden, Ronald Nickerson of Carmel, NY. Also survived by many dear friends.
A funeral service will be conducted in the Dello Russo Funeral Home 374 Main St., Wilmington, Wednesday, February 10th, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 4 thru 8 p.m. Services will conclude with burial at Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Late U.S. Army peacetime Veteran.
