Mamie “Scrap” Hinson Bennett, 83, of Tifton passed away Thursday, February 4, 2016, at her residence. Her funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, February 7, 2016, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Rev. Jimmie Hinson officiating. Mrs. Bennett will be laid to rest at Lakeview Baptist Church Cemetery in Lenox. The family will receive friends Saturday, February 6, 2016, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Jamie Hancock, Jason Hancock, Jordan Harris, Clay Giddens, Austin Bennett and Zack Bennett will serve as pallbearers.
Born May 31, 1932 in Tift County, Mrs. Bennett was the daughter of the late Ander Hinson and Maggie Welch Hinson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Samuel “J. S.” Bennett; a son, Ronnie Lee Bennett; a grandson, Walter Bennett; a granddaughter, Eden Thacker; two brothers; and five sisters. She was retired from J. P. Stevens/Forstman and a member of Lakeview Baptist Church in Lenox.
Mrs. Bennett is survived by a son, John Earl Bennett of Tifton; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Patricia Day and Lois and James Hancock, all of Lenox and Martha and Ricky Thacker of Cordele; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Lee and Carol Bennett, Jamie and Wendy Hancock, Whitney and Billy Joe Goff and Hope and Clay Giddens, all of Tifton, Connie and Sombhat Harris and Jason Hancock, all of Lenox, Karen and Frank Krause of South Carolina and Vickie Hancock of Valdosta; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren.
