Obituary

Rose Marie Garbino, a lifelong resident of Winchester, passed away at age 109 on Feb. 2, 2016. She was the beloved daughter of the late Nicholas and Rose Marie (Capone) Garbino. Born in the Winchester house where she was raised and lived her entire life, Rose was the oldest resident of Winchester. She attended Winchester Schools and was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church. She was a charter member of the Women’s Lodge of the Winchester Sons of Italy, and maintained membership for 80 years. A homemaker, Rose enjoyed cooking, reading and could often be found tending her flower and vegetable gardens, up until she reached age 85. In her spare time she enjoyed following the local Boston sports teams. Her nephew Bill and niece Jennifer remembered her as a modest person and loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews.

She was the dear sister of the late Joseph and William Garbino, Ellen Ronzio, Selina Gurrisi and Jeanette Garbino. Rose is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including William C. Gurrisi and his wife, Jean, of Winchester, Jennifer Gurrisi of Winchester, Allan Ronzio of Arlington, and several great-nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather at Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Sat., Feb. 6 from 8:30-9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester, at 10AM. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Winchester. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
