Obituary

Mary Catherine (nee Lamb) Nee

Beloved wife of Thomas P. Nee (deceased) mother of Kerry Clasby, Mary Jane McGill of Needham; Nancy Nee Hanifin of Jamaica Plain; Elaine Nee of Denver, Colorado; Thomas P. Nee Jr. of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Pamela Nee Barker of Needham. Beloved mother-in-law to their spouses Bradley F. McGill; John W. Hanifin; Kate Cunningham; Brian K. Fox and John E. Barker. Cherished grandmother of Christopher and William Clasby; Andrew, James and Madeline McGill; Cecelia, Billy and Mahlon Hanifin; Erin, Maeve, and Thomas Barker. Devoted sister of John J Lamb Jr. of Stoneham, Cecelia L. Lamb of Winthrop and Ronald J. Lamb of Burlington. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Mary was born in Sydney, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, the daughter of John J Lamb and Cecelia MacIsaac. She was a graduate of Lowell State Teachers College (now UMass Lowell) with a Masters Degree in Special Education from UMass Boston. She was one of the early hirees under the newly passed Chapter 766, the first special education law in the nation. For the next 20 years she taught in Holbrook, and upon retirement continued to substitute teach in Needham and Westwood.

Mary was a devout Catholic: a lector, religious education teacher and member of the St Denis choir in Westwood, for many years. She was also an incredible skier, tennis and bridge player. Mary, with Tom, loved to travel the world, but none of their trips could compare to her annual pilgrimage to her beloved Big Pond, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff and caregivers at Avita of Needham and the Elizabeth Seton Residence in Wellesley Hills for their incredible and compassionate care.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours in St Denis Church, 157 Washington St. (Route 1A) Westwood, on Thursday, Feb 4, from 4-8pm. There will be a Wake Service at 8pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday morning, Feb 5, at 10am in St. Denis Church. Interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury.
