Obituary

Oxford - Alfred E. Wandrei, 90, passed away at his home in Oxford on 29 January 2016.
A resident of Oxford since 1950, Al was the son of the late John and Bertha (Herzig) Wandrei of Adams.
He was married to the late Ruth (Dimock) Wandrei with whom he celebrated their 66th anniversary shortly before her passing in August 2015. He is survived by their daughter Joan and her husband Harry Gong of Chelmsford; son David and his wife Phyllis of Sterling; son Steven of Oxford; granddaughter Emily and her fiancé David; and grandson Brian and his wife Kyle. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by their son James. Al also leaves three siblings: John of Vermont, Dot Malloy of Adams, and Bob of Virginia. He was predeceased by his brother Bill of Adams
Al served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the Pacific theater. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Worcester State University, and Worcester Polytechnic University. He taught for many years at Oxford High School, subsequently moving to the then newly established Quinsigamond Community College where he taught until retirement. He was happiest working in his garden, tending to his bees, and cheering on Oxford’s own Punkin Chunkin team, Team Hurling Chunks.
At his request all services will be private; his body was donated to the UMass Medical School Anatomical Gift program. If desired, memorial tributes may be made to the VNA Hospice Care, Rose Monahan Hospice Home, 10 Judith Rd, Worcester, MA 01602 (www.vnacarenetwork.org) who cared for Ruth in her final days or to the charity of one’s choice.
