Arthur Carroll Norris, age 76, of Hingham, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 29, 2016 after courageously facing Parkinson's Disease. Arthur is survived by his wife of 55 years, Bette Lou Norris; his son Brian Arthur Norris and wife Kathryn of Holden, Maine; his son Gregg Alexander Norris and wife Christine of Rockport, Massachusetts; his son-in-law William LeComte and wife Rachel of Burlington, Massachusetts; and his sister, Jacqueline Murray and husband Richard of Weymouth.
Arthur was predeceased by his loving daughter Cheryl Norris LeComte, and four of his sisters Virginia Pellegrini, Elaine Smith, Muriel MacLeish and Gail Norris. Arthur was the grandfather of four wonderful and loving grandchildren: Rylan Norris (21), Kyle LeComte (20), Braydon Norris (19) and Alexander Norris (10); and extended family Renee LeComte (9) and Nathan LeComte (5).
Arthur is also survived by his loving nieces: Linda Pellegrini Pryzbylski of Stuart, Florida, Sharon Pellegrini Simmons of San Jose, California, Karen Murray Dean of San Jose, California, Brenda Pellegrini Denton of Williamsburg, Virginia, Susan Smith of Whitman, Massachusetts, Barbara MacLeish Bickel of Hanson, Massachusetts, Diane Holmok of Westlake, Ohio, Celia Pellegrini of Coquille, Oregon, and Sharlene Smith of Beaufort, South Carolina; his loving nephews: Steven Smith of Abington, Massachusetts, John MacLeish, Jr. of Weymouth, Massachusetts, Alan Murray of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Robert Holmok of Colleyville, Texas; and his brother-in-laws: Sherman Smith, John MacLeish, Sr. and Ronald Lee. Arthur was also predeceased by nephews Bruce MacLeish and Glenn Murray, brother-in-law Fulvio Pellegrini, and sister-in-laws: Nancy Lee Thorne and Jane Lee Holmok.
Arthur was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts, the son of Alexander and Madeline Norris. He attended Weymouth Vocational Technical School and served in the US Army. He worked with Smith Print of Weymouth and Norwell for over 40 years. Arthur worked his way from pressman to President of the company. In the latter portion of his career Arthur excelled as a top salesman.
Arthur felt it was important to give back to the community. He was an active member of Weymouth Rotary for over 25 years. Arthur is a past president of the Weymouth Chapter of Rotary Club International and recipient of Rotary's distinguished Paul Harris Fellow award. He was an active member of several community-related boards including President of Weymouth YMCA Board of Trustees. He was also a Trustee of South Weymouth Savings Bank.
Arthur was an avid runner, tennis player and golfer. He ran four marathons including the Boston Marathon. In his later years he would often play 36 holes of golf in a day. Arthur played tennis right up until 2014.
A man of deep integrity, respect and ethics, Arthur consistently taught his children and grandchildren to 'do the right thing' through the power of example. Arthur meant so much to so many people: a mentor, a teacher and a friend. He will be greatly missed and forever loved.
Family and friends are invited to the visiting hours at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Square), South Weymouth on Friday, February 5, from 3pm to 7pm.the Memorial Service will be private.
