Curtis Barbee, 74, of Tifton passed away Friday, January 29, 2016, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 1, 2016, at Hickory Springs Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Steve Pearce and Elder Buck Grantham officiating. Mr. Barbee will be laid to rest at Hickory Springs Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 31, 2016, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mr. Barbee will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Barbee’s grandsons, Curt Owen, Matt Owen, Conner Cross, Bryce Cross, Brooks Cross, Drew Venable, Zachary Barbee, Tyson Barbee, as well as Drew Cravey and Brett Cravey will serve as pallbearers.
Born June 24, 1941 in Worth County, Mr. Barbee was the son of the late Archie L. Barbee and Ruth Haman Barbee. He was also preceded in death by four brothers and a sister. Mr. Barbee had owned and operated Barbee Petroleum Equipment for 45 years. He loved tinkering in his shop, spending time with his grandsons, and his church. He served as a deacon of Hickory Springs Primitive Baptist Church, where he had been a member since December of 1966.
Mr. Barbee is survived by his wife Sandra Ross Barbee of Tifton; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Angela B. and Tim Owen, Melanie B. and Ray Cross and Christie B. Venable, all of Tifton; a son and daughter-in-law, C. Brian and Marsha Barbee of Tifton; his grandsons, Curt Owen, Matt Owen, Conner Cross, Bryce Cross, Brooks Cross, Drew Venable, Zachary Barbee and Tyson Barbee; a sister, Vera Howell of Sylvester; two brothers, Roy Barbee of Leesburg and Frank Barbee of Sylvester; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Charlene Ross, Larry and Linda Ross, Tim and Lynn Ross, Tammie and Jon Koran and Mike and Chrystle Ross; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
