NEW BEDFORD — Patience Sherman Trainor, age 96 years, formerly of Fairhaven, died December 15, 2015 at Hathaway Manor after a period of declining health.
Wife of the late Edward F. Trainor and mother of the late Meridith Trainor, she was born in New Bedford, June 5, 1919, daughter of the late James L. Sherman and Grace Atwood Sherman.
Patience was a graduate of New Bedford High School and the Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston. For many years she was secretary to the late Judge George Potter, then became associated with the law firm of Perry, Hicks and McCawley which later became Perry, Hicks, Crotty and Deshaies and subsequently Perry, Hicks and Deshaies.
A lifelong area resident, Patience was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist and active with the Greater New Bedford Concert Series, the Quota Club, served on the Human Rights Commission and was active with the Women's Army Corp.
Her long time dear friend and companion was the late George Marshall.
She is survived by nieces Pamela Fitzgerald, Patricia Burnett and Leigh Burnett and nephews Michael Burnett, David Trainor and Michael Trainor.
Her memorial service will take place on January 30th at noon in the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford, with friends being received within the hour prior to her memorial service. A reception will follow at the Wamsutta Club. Burial is private.
