Laconia---- Doris D. Hickey, 93, formerly of 181 Belvidere Street, passed away at Belknap County Nursing Home on Monday, January 25, 2016.
Doris was born February 5, 1922 in Laconia, daughter to Joseph F. and Laura M. (Picard) Theberge. Doris was educated in Laconia & graduated from Laconia High School in 1940. She married Robert A. Hickey in 1946 at Our Lady of the Lakes Church in Lakeport, NH where she was a communicant.
Doris joined the workforce at The Mill Shop on Union Avenue where she perfected her skills in sewing & knitting. She moved on to the Assessor’s Office with the City of Laconia and retired in 1989.
Doris loved to sew for herself, her family and many others, readily donating what she made to the church craft fairs. She played on a woman’s bowling league and sang with a church folk group for many years. She loved learning new things and became very proficient at refinishing furniture as well as chair caning.
Doris is survived by five children; Richard A. Hickey of Gloucester, VA, Carol L. Wilder and her husband, Leon, of Center Ossipee, Connie M. Rafferty and her husband, Kenneth, of Laconia, Susan J. Dath and her husband, David, of Meredith, and Robert A. Hickey Jr. and his wife, Karen, of Gilmanton, five grandchildren, Jennifer Hudgins of Gloucester Point, VA, Michelle Marcotte of Parker, CO, Corey Bisson of New Durham, Trevor Bisson of St. Petersburg, FL and Ariel Dath of Meredith; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn Morin of Laconia and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she is predeceased by her oldest child, Cathleen M. Shayeb as well as by three sisters, Isabelle DeBlois, Blanch Marquis and Winnifred Nadeau. Doris was loved dearly and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Services will be in the spring.
