Elizabeth J. “Betty” Atkins of Provincetown passed away peacefully at Seashore Point Wellness Center in Provincetown on Thursday, December 3, 2015. She was 101 years old.
Born in Meriden, Conn., she was a Provincetown resident for over 50 years. She was married to the late John Atkins, a Provincetown native who was a plumber and talented musician. He also directed the Provincetown Band.
Betty was a waitress at several local restaurants, most recently at Michael Shays. She also volunteered at the Soup Kitchen in Provincetown and the Council on Aging. She had a love of nature and wrote many poems. One of her poems, which was published in the Provincetown Banner won her wide praise.
Betty enjoyed sitting on the Town Hall benches and greeting her many friends on a sunny afternoon. Above all, she loved her Dalmatians which never left her side.
Betty is survived by daughter Melanie Lucido of Yarmouthport, granddaughter Rebecca Lucido and close friend John Hagen, grandsons Joseph Lucido Jr, and wife Sharon, Jack Lucido, Peter Lucido and his fiancée Taylor Leonard. Great-grandchildren Amanda Lucido, Amber and Jenna Lucido, Elle and Shae Lucido also survive her.
A private family gathering was held to celebrate Bettys life.
