Obituary

John M. "Jack" Brassil, (Retired Special Sheriff, Suffolk County Sheriff's Department), a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Broward Health Medical Center in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida following a tragic accident. He was 76 years old.

Jack was born in Boston on June 16, 1939, one of 14 children to the late Thomas E. Brassil and Margaret (Toomey) Brassil. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated at St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Don Bosco High School in Boston in 1957. Jack began working for the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department in 1963 and throughout his career in law enforcement he rose through the ranks for the Sheriff's Department and retired in 1997 with the rank of Special Sheriff after 34 years of dedicated service. Jack enjoyed playing cards, fishing, traveling and spending time in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida but most of all he cherished the quality times he spent with each one of his grandchildren.

Jack is the beloved husband of 54 years to Marilyn T. "Mal" (Sullivan) Brassil. He is the devoted father of retired Boston Firefighter Thomas Brassil and his wife Elise, John Brassil and Lyn Mathes and her husband Jason. He is the loving Pa to Jessica, John, Gillian, Kevin, Thomas, Emma and his great-granddaughter Alexa Jean. He is the beloved brother of Margaret Cameron and her late husband Paul, Thomas Brassil and his wife Pam, James Brassil and Sandy McKay, Robert Brassil and his wife Lillian, Mary Luzzo and her husband Vincent, Fred Brassil and his wife Linda, Joseph Brassil and his wife Deidre, William Brassil and his wife Katherine and the late Dorothy Gavin and her surviving husband Tom, Rita Carroll and her surviving husband Joe, Maureen Brassil, Paul Brassil and Richard Brassil. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jack's Funeral on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. His burial will be at St. Paul's Cemetery in Arlington. Visiting hours will be on Friday, January 29, 2016 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
