New Bedford – Jose M. Toste, age 67 of New Bedford, passed away on Monday January 25, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Celeste G. Toste. Jose was born in Terceira, Azores and came to this country in 1974 where he has lived ever since. He was the son of the late Rosa (Candida) and Jose Borges Toste.
Jose worked as an Assembler at Harvey Windows and also worked at Berkshire Hathaway until his retirement. He was an avid Benfica fan and loved to watch them play, but most of all he enjoyed being with his beloved family.
He is survived by 2 daughters: Ana Matos and her husband Robert and Rose Cortes and her husband Vidal; 4 grandchildren: Justin Cortes, Roy Matos, Vanessa Cortes, and Amanda Matos; 2 siblings: Fernando Toste and Elsa Rosa as well as several nieces and nephews. Jose was also the father of the late Rui Toste.
His funeral will be on Thursday beginning in the funeral home at 11:00 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 12:00 P.M. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Wednesday evening from 5 – 8 P.M. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St., New Bedford, MA.
