FALL RIVER – Maria doCarmo Arruda, age 99 of Fall River, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016 at Crawford Nursing Care Center with her family by her side. Born in Vila do Nordeste, São Miguel, Açores, she was the wife of the late Ernesto Arruda and the daughter of the late Jose Pacheco Almas and the late Rosa (Raposa Mello) Almas. Maria had been a homemaker and a parishioner of Saint Anthony of Padua Church, Fall River.
She is survived by her sister: Maria Conceicão (Almas) Silvia and brother-in- law: Arthur Silvia Jr. of Fall River; 4 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Ernesto P. Arruda and the sister of the late Manuel P. Almas, Ernest P. Almas, Francisco P. Almas, Isaura P. Almas, Maria Belmira Branco, & Santo Christo Almas.
Her calling hours for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 26th from 9:00 – 10:00 A.M. in the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 1521 N. Main St. Fall River. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in Saint Anthony of Padua Church at 11:00 A.M. Interment in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fall River.
