David R. Wellman, 74

David R. Wellman, age 74, a lifelong resident of Mansfield passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Helen M. (Talbot) Wellman, to whom he was wed on November 10, 1967.
Born in Attleboro, MA on February 28, 1941, he was a loving son of the late Carl G., Sr. and Nellie B. (Fowler) Wellman. He grew up and was educated in Mansfield.
Prior to retiring Dave was a heavy equipment operator for the Mansfield Department of Public Works. The majority of his career was spent at the former Mansfield Landfill.
Dave’s enjoyed the simple pleasures of relaxing at home, where he loved doing yard work, gardening and especially being surrounded by his adoring grandsons. He also volunteered his assistance to many local organizations.
His other interests included camping with his family at Bourne Scenic Park on Cape Cod and he was also an avid NASCAR fan.
In addition to his beloved wife of over 47 years, he is survived by his devoted children David K. Wellman and Laura M. Wellman both of Mansfield. He was the dear brother of Richard Wellman and Marion Cooney both of Florida, Donald Wellman of Texas and the late Carl Wellman, Jr., Etta Young, Phyllis Briggs, Shirley Ribeiro, Helena Havey and Annette Kincaid. He is also survived by his cherished grandsons Dillon and Justin Welch both of Mansfield, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Wednesday, January 27th from 5:00- 8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
Services and burial will be private, and in lieu of flowers, donations in David’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005.
