Obituary

Augustino M. “Gus” Lucini, age 89, of Stoughton, formerly of West Bridgewater, died peacefully at his home January 18, 2016 following a brief illness. Gus was the loving husband of Joan C. (Hopkins)(Nardozzi)(Ferrini) Lucini of Stoughton and the late Jacqueline (Gregoire) Lucini whom he adored. Gus was born in Bridgewater, son of the late Albert and Corina (Peri) Lucini. He was raised and educated in West Bridgewater, and was a graduate of Howard High School. He was a veteran of WWII and served in the Coast Guard. Gus was a dedicated son and brother, working in the family business his entire life starting as a young child pumping gas, rolling bocce courts and fixing cars. He had been owner, vice president and parts manager of Lucini Motor Sales in West Bridgewater until he retired in 1991. Gus was an avid golfer and held the record for the longest membership at the Brockton Country Club of 59 years where he collected many trophies including several years as the Brockton City Senior’s Champion and scored 3 holes-in-one during his lifetime. For many years Gus ran the local Ford “Punt, Pass and Kick” contest and accompanied several of his participants onto national level competition. He enjoyed playing bridge with Joan, cribbage with his grandchildren, bocce ball, and music. For the past 20 years, he and his wife Joan wintered on Amelia Island, in Florida where they could be found most afternoons and evenings listening to live music at the local restaurants and bars. It is often said that Gus would meet someone he knew everywhere he went. His big smile was always present and welcomed everyone.
Gus is also survived by his children Mary-Beth Lucini of West Bridgewater, Gregory L. Lucini and his wife Patricia of Berkley, Todd A. Lucini and his wife Paula of East Bridgewater; stepchildren Jean Maini and her husband Peter of Norton, John Nardozzi of Milton, James Nardozzi and his wife Robin of Florida and Jaye Lisa Flanzbaum and her husband Eric of Easton; seven grandchildren who loved him deeply, Gregory, Jr., Michael, Christina, Stephen, Corrina, Christopher and Jacqueline; a step grandchild Denis Landry, his wife Laurence and son Daniel, 16 step grand and great- grandchildren; a brother Albert D. Lucini and his wife Kathleen of Middleboro; and a brother-in-law Richard Gregoire of Florida He was the brother of the late Anne Hallisey and Leo and Julian Lucini. He was also a life-long friend of the late Roger Higgins and Francis Mansfield.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street, (Rte 123) Brockton, Friday 4-8pm. The procession will gather at the funeral home Saturday at 10am for a funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, West Bridgewater at 11am. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, followed by a celebration of Gus’s life at the Brockton Country Club. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his name be made to the ALS Association, Gift & Processing Center, PO Box 6051, Alberta Lea, MN 56007.
