Obituary


William E. Belanger, 78, of N. Dartmouth, unexpectedly passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2016 at St. Anne’s Hospital. He was the husband of Frances H. (Sroczynski) Belanger, they were married for 56 years.
Mr. Belanger was born in 1937 in Detroit, MI, son of the late Jerome V. and Ruth (Kanaka) Belanger, and had resided in N. Dartmouth for the last 56 years. He was a graduate of St. Vincent’s High School and then went on to the Brainbridge Printing School in New York. In 1955 he entered the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Newport, RI. He served on the Admiral’s Staff with the Navy Chaplain serving daily Mass in Latin. Mr. Belanger met his wife Frances in 1959 and they began their family. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a printer for Reynolds DeWalt Printing, New Bedford. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed many hobbies including making toy furniture, reversed tinsel painting on glass and making pine cone wreaths and trees. He was a communicant of St. George Church, Westport, an avid reader and very artistic. He truly loved his ’93 Ford Thunderbird 5.0 and one of his greatest joys was attending car shows with his sons. His favorite pastime was watching the Old Western movie channel and he adored his Akita, Noble. Mr. Belanger was a devoted father and cherished spending time with his family.
Survivors along with his wife include his 2 sons: Michael Belanger of FL and Steven Belanger and his wife Eileen Freitas Belanger of FL; 3 nieces: Julie Flynn, Alicia Carelli and Kathleen Simon; 4 great nephews: Jack, Peter, Jacob and Isaac; great niece: Catie; and his sister and brother- in-law: Alice and Jack Mills.
He was the brother of the late Judy Melendez.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Monday, January 25, 2016 from the Potter Funeral Home at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. George Church, Westport at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-5 P.M.
Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
