TEWKSBURY - Mrs. Gladys Elizabeth “Liz” (Leary) Whitler, age 91, died peacefully Sunday morning, January 17, at Palm Manor Nursing Center in Chelmsford, where she had been in residence for the last few years; lovingly cared for by nurses and staff. She was the beloved wife of the late William H. Whitler.
She was born in Shirley, MA, on March 17, 1924, a daughter of the late James H. and Celia (Hodgman) Leary, and was raised in Shirley.
She worked as a seamstress in clothing manufacturing before her retirement.
She and her husband lived in Florida, California, and Arizona, before returning to live in the Carnation Drive senior housing community in 1998.
She was predeceased by her sister, Phyllis Leary, and her dear cousin, Anne (Dillon) Roux; and is survived by many cousins, including Carol Isabelle of Tewksbury, Rose and Hank Dillon of Andover; and great cousins including Lois Roux of Tewksbury; Maria Rastas of Pepperell, Linda Chestnut of FL, and Larry Roux of AL; and the extended Dillon, Isabelle and Roux families.
Gladys will lovingly be remembered for her content spirit and joyful laughter.
A Springtime graveside service will be held in Tewksbury Cemetery. Arrangements were through the Tewksbury Funeral Home.
