Robert L. Wargo, 81, of Goffstown died peacefully on January 13, 2016 at Hillsborough County Nursing Home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Holden, WV on December 13, 1934, the son of Louis and Mary Margaret (Butcher) Wargo. Robert was educated in the Holden school system. He began his 20 year military career in 1954, in Alaska and later serving in Scotland, Germany, Turkey and Greece. He retired as Master Sergeant in 1974. Prior to retirement, Robert worked at Digital Equipment Corporation.
Robert had a passion for driving. He raced cars, mainly Volkswagon’s, in both Greece, competitively, and Loudon for pleasure. Robert graduated from the Skip Barber School of Racing and went on to win the Hill Climb tournament in Greece during the height of his racing career. He was well liked by all and loved people, especially his friends and staff at Bel Air and Hillsborough County Nursing Homes. Above all, Robert will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
Family includes his wife of 47 years, Marilyn (Moline) Wargo of Goffstown; one daughter, Cathy Berube and her husband Andrew of Goffstown; two granddaughters, Amelia and Leana Berube of Goffstown; two sisters, Mary Bessinger and husband William of OH, and Eva George and husband David of IN; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents; and three sisters, Betty, Judy, and Margaret.
A funeral service, with military honors, took place on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 in the chapel at New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH 03303.
