Whitman – Edward T. Almeida, Sr. 90, a longtime resident of Whitman, died in his home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday January 14. He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara A. (Toomey) Almeida.
Born in Bridgewater he was the son of the late John and Alice (Sylvia) Almeida.
He was a proud veteran of World War II having served in the US Army from 1944-1946, and was a member of the Whitman VFW.
He was a loyal communicant of the Holy Ghost Church and had spent numerous days generously volunteering his time with “Share” through Catholic Charities.
Ed enjoyed working around his yard and garden where he loved to have family and friends “drop by”. He had also enjoyed camping, fishing and the beach, but his greatest joy was the times spent with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his children Edward Almeida, Jr and his wife Barbara of VA, Elaine Wright and her husband Charles of Middleboro, Claire Beliveau Hancock and her husband Donald of Whitman, Barbara Nutt and her husband Robert of Whitman, Gail Goodwin of Mansfield and George Almeida and his wife Lynn of Whitman. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Ann and Thomas Almeida.
His services will be held Tuesday January 19 at 9:45 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will follow at 2:00 PM in the MA National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours will be held Monday January 18 from 5:00-8:00 PM.
