Obituary

Augusta, GA---Mr. Yick Chong Dong, 83, entered into rest on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at University Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am tomorrow, Saturday, January 16, 2016 at The Storey Chapel of First Baptist Church of Augusta with Dr. Rodger Murchison officiating. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park. Mr. Dong will lie in state, in The Storey Chapel, from 10:00 am until time of services.
Mr. Dong was born July 18, 1932 in Drew, Mississippi. Upon his graduation from Drew High School, he served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict in the Medical Corps and achieved the rank of Sergeant. After being honorably discharged, he graduated from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy and was a member of Phi Delta Chi pharmacy fraternity. Over the span of his 60 year career, he was the owner and operator of Double-D Drugs and was later employed by Revco and Barney’s Pharmacy. He was a partner in Five Happiness Corporation, owners of the Golden Dragon restaurant. He was also a member of the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association.
Mr. Dong was preceded in death by his parents, Sing Dong and Yet You Wong Dong and a brother, George Dong.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ellen Woo Dong of Augusta, GA, son, Craig Dong (Martha) of Acworth, GA, three daughters, Cara Dong Lee (Douglas)of Peachtree Corners, GA, Amy Dong and Alison Dong, both of New York, NY, brother, Fay Dong (Juanita) of Jackson, MS, three sisters, Mae Wong of Dallas, TX, Ann Pon (Herb) of Greenbrae, CA and Mary Lau of San Francisco, CA, five grandchildren, Katherine Lee, Anna Lee, Sarah Dong, Madeline Dong and Maxwell Dong and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Craig Dong, Bradford Loo, Brian Woo, Keith Woo, Eugene Woo, III, Ronald Dong, Edwin Pang and Jackson Wong.
The family will receive friends this evening Friday, January 15, 2016 from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm at Platt’s Funeral Home Belair Road.
