Mary P. “Polly” Reed, 85 formerly of Londonderry, NH died Tuesday January 12, 2016 at the Villa Crest Nursing Home, Manchester, NH. Polly was born in Worcester, MA on November 11, 1930, a daughter of the late Sydney and Adeline (Allan) Perley. She was raised and educated in Ipswich, MA. Polly was a graduate of UNH and worked as an occupational therapist with the Derry Visiting Nurses Association for many years. Following a period of residence in Keene, NH, she moved to Londonderry in 1960.
In the mid 1960’s Polly restarted the Girl Scouts program in Londonderry. She was a member of the Londonderry Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Lamplighters. She was a trustee for the Leach Library in Londonderry and a supervisor of the checklist in Londonderry for 25 years. She was also a member of the Trustees for the Trust Funds and served on the committee for Londonderry’s Bicentennial in 1970.
Polly enjoyed animals, cooking, and loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was expecting her first great-grandchild, Alexandre James in two weeks. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the Special Care Unit at Villa Crest.
She is survived by her two sons, James Marshall Reed II, and Eric Fowler Reed both of Londonderry, three daughters, Gretchen Reed of Manchester, Dorothy Guzowski and her husband Edward of Londonderry, and Rebecca Thurston and her husband Scott of Barrington, NH, six grandchildren, James Guzowski and his fiance’ Kara Alexandre, Karlee Guzowski and her boyfriend Jr. Garcia, Emily Thurston, Patrick Thurston, Abigail Reed, and M. James Reed, one brother, and two sisters. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, and her beloved dog “Nana”. She was predeceased by her husband, James M. Reed in 2010.
Following cremation, calling hours were held on Friday January 15, 2016 from 6 – 8pm with a service at 7:30pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry.
